HOUSTON (December 11, 2019) – International percussion sensation STOMP returns to Houston presented by Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) for four performances on Thursday, January 23 through Friday, January 25 at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts. Using everything but conventional percussion instruments, performers fill the stage with a compelling and unique act that is often imitated but never duplicated. It is safe to say you will never again look at supermarket carts or plumbing fixtures the same way. This unique musical experience of choreographed percussion, movement, and physical comedy has been inspiring world audiences for almost three decades—proving that, with a little creativity, rhythm and music can be born out of almost anything. STOMP is perfect for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. There are no spoken parts during the performance, just pulse pounding action that crosses any language barrier. In addition to the performances, patrons are invited to stay in their seats after the show for a Westwood Trust Creative Chat with STOMP company members as they discuss their experience and answer questions.

With overwhelming success marked by rave reviews, numerous awards, and sell-out engagements, STOMP is the winner of an Olivier Award for Best Choreography (London’s Tony Award), a New York Obie Award, a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatre Experience, and a Special Citation from Best Plays. STOMP is explosive, inventive, provocative, witty, and utterly unique—an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages. From its beginnings as a street performance in the UK, STOMP has grown into an international sensation over the past 20 years, having performed in more than 50 countries and in front of more than 24 million people. Come see the show hailed by LA Weekly as “A sure-fire crowd pleaser.”

About STOMP

STOMP was created in Brighton, UK, in the summer of 1991. It was the result of a ten-year collaboration between its creators, Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. The duo first worked together in 1981, as members of the street band Pookiesnackenburger and the theatre group Cliff Hanger. STOMP premiered at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, where it became The Guardian’s “Critics’ Choice” and won The Daily Express “Best of the Fringe Award”. STOMP began its run at the Orpheum Theatre in New York in February 1994 and quickly went on to win both an Obie and a Drama Desk Award for Most Unique Theatre Experience. By the summer of 1994, the first American cast was in place at the Orpheum, freeing the original cast for sell-out tours of North America and Japan. The current tour of STOMP commemorates 25 years of performances in New York City.
